Typs, use and maintenance tips of lawn mowers

With the rapid growth of the turf industry, the need for lawn mowers is increasing.

Ensuring the proper use and maintenance of lawn mowers can extend their life.

Lawn mowers consist of components such as the engine (or motor), housing, blades, wheels and control armrests. T

he knowledge related to the classification, daily use and maintenance of lawn mowers is introduced as follows:

I. Lawn mowers types

According to the power can be divided into gasoline-fueled engine type, electricity-powered electric type and non-powered hand-push mower;

according to the walking mode can be divided into self-propelled, non-self-propelled hand-push type and seat type mower;

according to the grass collection mode can be divided into grass collection bag type and side row type mower;

according to the number of blades can be divided into single-blade type, double-blade type and combined blade type mower;

according to the blade cutting mode can be divided into roller blade type and Rotary blade mower.

The common mowers are engine type, self-propelled type, grass collection bag type, single blade type, rotary blade type models.

II. Use of lawn mowers

Before mowing, you must first remove debris from the mowing area.

Check the engine’s oil level, gasoline quantity, air filter filtration performance, screw tightness, blade tightness and sharpness.

When starting the engine in cold condition, close the damper first, press the oil injector more than 3 times, open the throttle to the maximum, and then open the damper at the right time after starting.

When mowing, if the grass is too long, it should be cut in stages, and only 1/3 of the total length of the grass should be cut off each time, in order to avoid grass yellowing after mowing;

if the slope of the mowing area is too steep, the grass should be cut downhill;

if the slope is more than 30, it is better not to use the lawn mower;

if the lawn area is too large, the lawn mower should not work continuously for more than 4 hours.

III. Maintenance of lawn mowers after use

After using the lawn mower, it should be fully cleaned and checked whether all the screws are tightened, the oil level is in line with the regulations, the air filter is in good performance, and the blades are not damaged.

According to the service life of the lawn mower, the inspection or replacement of wearing parts should be strengthened and periodic maintenance should be carried out.

1. Maintenance of oil.

Before each use of the lawn mower, check the oil level to see if it is between the upper and lower scale of the oil scale.

The oil should be changed after 5 hours of cumulative use of the new machine, and again after 10 hours of use, and then regularly according to the requirements of the manual.

Oil change should be done when the engine is warm to ensure that all the waste oil can be discharged. Fill the oil can not be too much, otherwise there will be starting difficulties, black smoke, lack of power (cylinder carbon, spark plug gap is small), engine overheating and other phenomena.

Fill oil can not be too little, otherwise there will be engine gear noise, piston ring accelerated wear and damage, and even the phenomenon of pulling tile, causing serious damage to the engine.

2. Maintenance of the air filter.

The filter should be checked for dirt before and after each use, and should be changed and washed regularly.

If it is too dirty, it will lead to difficult engine start, big black smoke and lack of power.

3. Carburetor and fuel line maintenance.

Gasoline should be filtered through a strainer when adding to the fuel tank.

When cleaning the carburetor, apply special cleaning agent for carburetor, the cleaning cycle depends on the dirty degree of the carburetor.

When the carburetor fails, or the engine cannot start, or stalls after starting, then it should be cleaned immediately.

IV. Common troubleshooting

1. Engine won’t start.

Causes: No gasoline; spark plug wire off; throttle switch not in starting position; oil circuit not working; misalignment of ignition; damaged spark plug.

Remedy: Add gasoline; connect the spark plug wire; set the throttle switch to maximum; clean the oil circuit; correct the ignition time; replace the spark plug with a new one.

2. The engine is not running smoothly.

Cause: Throttle is in the maximum position, the damper is in the open state; spark plug wire is loose; water and dirt into the fuel system; air filter is too dirty; carburetor is not properly adjusted; engine set screw is loose; engine crankshaft is bent.

Exclusion methods: adjust the throttle switch downward; connect the spark plug outer wire firmly; clean the fuel tank and re-add clean fuel; clean the air filter or replace the filter element: re-adjust the carburetor: check the engine set screw after turning off the engine; correct the crankshaft or replace the new shaft.

3. The engine will not shut off.

Cause: Improper installation of the throttle cable on the engine; broken throttle cable; insensitive throttle activity; flameout cable cannot make contact.

Elimination method: Reinstall the throttle cable; replace the new throttle cable; drip a small amount of oil into the throttle activity position; check or replace the flameout cable.

4. Poor grass discharge.

Cause: Engine speed is too low; grass is blocking the grass outlet; grass humidity is too high; grass is too long and too dense; blades are not sharp.

Removal methods: remove the grass from the mower; wait for the lawn to dry before mowing; cut the lawn in 3 passes, cutting only 1/3 of the grass length each time; sharpen the blades before mowing.
